Sen. Albert comments on 2026 State of the State address

LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Thomas Albert, R-Lowell, on Wednesday issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2026 State of the State address:

“Every one of Gov. Whitmer’s eight State of the State addresses can be summed up in what President Reagan coined the nine most terrifying words in the English language: ‘I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.’

“I appreciate the governor recognizes there are issues that need improving for the people of Michigan, but sometimes it’s hard to figure out how she’s helping. After eight years of growing government and ballooning our state budget, we need a new approach. We need to get back to limited government and free enterprise.

“Our most pressing problem involves rising prices on everything from the grocery store to housing to health care. New government spending or programs will not solve these problems. Too much government spending is what caused this inflation in the first place. Inflation is a hidden tax imposed upon people because government fails to live within its means.

“The path forward for growth, prosperity and opportunity is by getting government out of the way and letting our state grow from the ground up.”
